For the purposes of this Part, "financial service" means any financial or banking service a co-operative may provide to its members, and includes the provision of long-term and short-term insurance, as envisaged in terms of the Long-term Insurance Act, 1998 (Act No. 52 of 1998), or the Short-term Insurance Act, 1998 (Act No. 53 of 1998), and the business of a medical scheme, as envisaged in terms of the Medical Schemes Act (Act No. 131 of 1998), or funeral services, as envisaged in the Friendly Societies Act, 1956 (Act No. 25 of 1956).
