(1) |
For purposes of this section, "firearm part" means a slide, bolt or breech-block of a firearm, or a device designed to be attached to the barrel of a firearm in order to muffle or moderate the report of that firearm. |

(2) |
No person may possess any firearm part unless he or she— |
(a) |
holds a licence in respect of a firearm capable of bearing that firearm part; |
(b) |
holds a dealer’s licence, manufacturer’s licence, gunsmith’s licence, import, export or in-transit permit or transporter’s permit issued in terms of this Act; or |
(c) |
is otherwise authorised to do so. |
(3) |
The holder of a dealer’s licence, manufacturer’s licence, gunsmith’s licence, import, export or in-transit permit or transporter’s permit issued in terms of this Act must keep such register of all firearm parts in his or her possession as may be prescribed. |
(a) |
The Minister may, by notice in the Gazette, prohibit or restrict the acquisition, disposal, possession or use of firearm parts if it is— |
(i) |
in the interest of public safety; or |
(ii) |
desirable for the maintenance of law and order. |
(b) |
A notice contemplated in paragraph (a) must be tabled in Parliament at least 14 days before publication thereof if Parliament is then sitting, and if Parliament is not sitting, within seven days after the commencement of the next sitting. |
(c) |
A notice contemplated in paragraph (a) will be of full force and effect until withdrawn by the Minister or by a resolution of Parliament. |
