To obtain a certificate of competency as Second Engineer Officer of a fishing vessel of any kilowatt’s propulsion power—
(a) |
a candidate making entry on an accelerated training programme shall— |
(i) |
be at least 18 years of age; |
(ii) |
have at least 12 months approved sea service in the engine department of a fishing vessel of 2000 kW propulsion power or more under the supervision of a qualified engineer officer; and |
(iii) |
have completed approved education and training and meet the standards of competence specified in the Training Standards Code for this certificate; |
(b) |
a candidate making entry without an accelerated training programme shall— |
(i) |
be at least 18 years of age; |
(ii) |
have at least 18 months approved sea service in the engine department of a fishing vessel of 2000 kW propulsion power or more under the supervision of a qualified engineer officer; and |
(iii) |
have completed approved education and training and meet the standards of competence specified in the Training Standards Code for this certificate; |
(c) |
a candidate holding a certificate of competency as Second Engineer (<2000 kW Fishing) shall— |
(i) |
have at least six months approved sea service as an officer in charge of engineering watch on fishing vessels of 2000 kW propulsion power or more; and |
(ii) |
have completed approved education and training and meet the standards of competence specified in the Training Standards Code for this certificate. |
