In these regulations "the Act" means the Merchant Shipping Act, 1951 (Act No. 57 of 1951), and any word or expression to which a meaning has been assigned in the Act shall have the meaning so assigned and, unless the context otherwise indicates—
"authority"
means, in respect of Class 1 ships, the Minister and, in respect of Class 2 and Class 3 ships, the Director-General;
"Class C boat"
means a Class C boat as defined in the Life-Saving Equipment Regulations, 1968, published under Government Notice No. R. 141 of 2,February 1968;
"lifeboat"
means a lifeboat as defined in the Life-Saving Equipment Regulations, 1968, published under Government Notice No. R. 141 of 2 February 1968;
"liferaft"
means a liferaft as defined in the Life-Saving Equipment Regulations, 1968, published under Government Notice No. R. 141 of 2 February 196B;
"pharmacist"
means any person registered as a pharmacist under the Pharmacy Act, 1974 (Act No. 53 of 1974);
"tons"
means gross tonnage.
