These regulations apply to employers or users including principal contractors, sub-contractors and mandatories, self employed persons and employees where any construction work is performed. These regulations however will not apply to any construction work carried on at any mine, a mining works or any works as defined in the Mine Health and Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996).
Environmental impacts that will occur during construction activities will be considered in these regulations. Although these regulations will focus primarily on the health and safety of the workers, there will be inclusion of activities such as the disposal of materials from the construction site. This will not only impact on health and safety of workers but will also impact on the immediate environment. These regulations are presently under review.
