Section 11 of the National Environmental Management Act (Act No. 107 of 1998) requires that the national and provincial departments exercising functions which may affect the environment, in terms of the Schedule 1 of the Act, prepare an Environmental Implementation Plan (EIP) and to monitor the implementation on a regular basis. The Department of Housing is listed in Schedule 1 and is therefore required to prepare an EIP. The plan needs to be reviewed at least every four years thereafter. The 1st edition EIP for the Department of Housing was gazetted in March 2001. The 2nd edition EIP has been prepared in pursuance of the imperatives of Act.

The Department hereby publishes in terms of section 15(2)(b) of the National Environmental Management Act (Act No. 107 of 1998) the Environmental Implementation Plan as recommended by the Committee for Environmental Coordination and adopted by this Department.

In terms of Sub-section 15(2)(b) the plan becomes effective from the date of publication.
