In these regulations any word or expression to which a meaning has been assigned in the Act shall have the meaning so assigned to it and, unless the context otherwise indicates –

"contravention"

means failure to adhere to or comply with the Act;

"contravention notice"

means a contravention notice contemplated in regulation 5;

"penalty"

means a penalty imposed by the Regulator in accordance with these Regulations; and

"the Act"

means the National Railway Safety Regulator Act, 2002 (Act No. 16 of 2002) as amended and includes Regulations, Standards and directives made under the Act.
