I, Ms. Barbara Creecy, Minister of Transport, acting in terms of section 88 of the National Road Traffic Act, 1996 (Act no 93 of 1996) (hereinafter referred to as "the Act"), hereby, for the purpose of a new number plate pilot project to be conducted in the Gauteng Province, grant exemption to the motor vehicles owned by the Gauteng Provincial Administration (hereinafter referred to as "the G-Fleet"), and to any persons operating such motor vehicles on a public road, from complying with the provisions of section 68(1) of the Act and the provisions of regulations 27 and 35 of the National Road Traffic Regulations, 2000, as published in Government Notice No. R. 225 of 17 March 2000 (hereinafter referred to as "the Regulations"), subject to the following conditions:
| (a) | Every motor vehicle of which the G-Fleet is the owner must display a number plate that complies with the specifications stipulated in the Schedule hereto; and |
| (b) | the licence number allowed to a motor vehicle in the G-Fleet, upon licensing of such a motor vehicle in terms of the Act, must be displayed on the number plate referred to in paragraph (a). |
This Notice shall come into operation on the date of publication in the Government Gazette.
