Grace period for all Asylum Seekers in the Refugee Backlog
Project : 1 September 2007 – 31 October 2007
The Department of Home Affairs requests all Asylum Seekers who lodged applications for asylum in terms of the Refugee Act, 1998 (Act No. 130 of 1998) dating back from April 1998 to July 2005, whose applications are still pending and who are not in possession of valid asylum seeker’s permits, to report to their nearest Home Affair’s Refugee Backlog Project Office mentioned below between 1 September 2007 to 31 October 2007.
Should the concerned Asylum Seekers not come forward during this period, their applications will be deemed as abandoned and subsequently be dealt with in terms of the Immigration Act, 2002 (Act No. 13 of 2002).
