In these Regulations, any expression, word or phrase to which a meaning has been assigned in the Spatial Data Infrastructure Act, 2003 (Act No. 54 of 2003) (hereinafter referred to as "the Act "), bears the same meaning and, unless the context indicates otherwise—

"Committee"

means the Committee for Spatial Information established by section 5 of the Act;

"Data Collection Project Register"

means a technical system provided by the Department;

"Department"

means the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform;

"geographical information" or "geo-spatial information"

means spatial information as defined in section 1 of the Act;

"GIS"

means geographical information systems;

"SABS"

means the South African Bureau of Standards referred to in section 3 of the Standards Act, 2008 (Act No. 8 of 2008), responsible for the development, promotion and maintenance of South African National Standards, the promotion of quality in connection with commodities, products and services, and the rendering of conformity assessment services and matters connected therewith;

"spatial data"

means any data in respect of a specific location or geographic area;

"subcommittee"

means a subcommittee established in terms of section 10 of the Act.
