Witness Protection Act, 1998 (Act No. 112 of 1998)21. Agreements with international bodies, institutions, organisations or foreign countries |
(1) | The Minister may enter into an agreement, either in general or on specific terms and conditions, with any international body, institution, organisation or foreign country in order to— |
(a) | place a person who is being protected under a witness protection programme administered by that body, institution, organisation or country, under protection in terms of this Act; or |
(b) | admit a protected person to a witness protection programme in terms of any law applicable to that body, institution or organisation or in that country: Provided that no person referred to in paragraph (a) shall be placed under protection without the consent of the Minister. |
(2) | For the purpose of giving effect to the provisions of subsection (1), any Minister shall, in relation to a person in respect of whom an agreement as contemplated in subsection (1) has been entered into and upon a recommendation by the Minister, exercise, perform or carry out any power, function and duty conferred upon, assigned to or imposed upon such Minister by or under any law. |
