I, Barbara Dallas Creecy, Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, hereby, in terms of section 8 of the World Heritage Convention Act, 1999 (Act No. 49 of 1999), declare the Member of the Executive Council responsible for the environment in the Gauteng Province as the Management Authority responsible for the Fossil Hominid Site of Sterkfontein, Swartkrans, Kromdraai and Environs (Cradle of Humankind) World Heritage Site for a period of five years subject to a performance review.

The Management Authority shall exercise those powers and duties referred to in sections 13(1) and (2), and 15 of the World Heritage Convention Act, 1999 (Act No. 49 of 1999).

In order for the Management Authority to be able to perform its duties, I furthermore declare that sections 33, 35, 36, 37, 39, 40(1) and (2) and 42 of the World Heritage Convention Act, 1999 (Act No. 49 of 1999) and applicable sections of the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act, 2003 (Act No. 57 of 2003) shall apply to the Management Authority.
