| (1) | The council of a municipality which does not have a mayor, must designate a councillor to exercise the powers and duties assigned by this Act to a mayor. |
| (2) | A reference in this Act to the mayor of a municipality must, in the case of a municipality which does not have a mayor, be construed as a reference to a councilor designated by the council of the municipality in terms of subsection (1). |
