Military Veterans Act: Draft Burial Support Regulations Published

Brought to you by SA Legal Academy: The Department of Military Veterans has released draft regulations for public comment that will govern the provision of burial support to deceased military veterans.

In terms of the Military Veterans Act, No. 18 of 2011, the proposed regulations seek to formalise the administrative processes and eligibility criteria for burial assistance. The notice, published in the Government Gazette, invites stakeholders and interested parties to submit written comments on the draft text by no later than 13 July 2025.

The draft regulations are intended to replace the existing regulatory framework to ensure a more streamlined and transparent application process for the next of kin. The proposed framework outlines the specific procedures and requirements for being granted burial support upon the death of a deceased military veteran.
