Public Comment Deadlines: July 2025 Legislative Proposals
Brought to you by SA Legal Academy: Several national government proposals and new legislative frameworks remain open for public representation during July 2025.
In accordance with the public participation requirements of the Constitution and the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act, No. 3 of 2000, various national government departments have issued calls for public comment on draft legislation and regulations. These invitations allow stakeholders to influence the final drafting of laws before they are tabled in Parliament or promulgated by the relevant Minister.
The consultation process typically involves the following steps for legal and compliance professionals:
- Reviewing the draft Bill or Regulation as published in the Government Gazette;
- Submitting written representations to the designated departmental official by the specified deadline; and
- Participating in public hearings or stakeholder workshops where applicable.
Failure to engage during the comment period may limit a party’s ability to challenge the procedural fairness of the regulation at a later stage. Professionals should monitor the Government Gazette regularly to identify specific closing dates for proposals affecting their respective sectors.
What this means for you, your business, or your clients
- For yourself: Identify specific draft amendments relevant to your area of practice to ensure you remain current with evolving statutory requirements and professional standards.
- For your business: Assess the firm’s internal compliance frameworks against proposed regulatory changes to anticipate necessary adjustments to standard operating procedures and risk registers.
- For your clients: Provide strategic advice on how proposed legislative changes may impact client operations and facilitate the drafting of formal submissions to the relevant Department to protect client interests.
