SARS: 2025 Tax Season Filing Dates for Individuals
Brought to you by SA Accounting Academy: The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has released the filing dates for the 2025 tax season, specifically addressing the timeline for individual auto-assessments.
In terms of the Income Tax Act, No. 58 of 1962, SARS has confirmed that the 2025 filing season will continue to utilise the auto-assessment system for individual taxpayers. Under this framework, the Commissioner issues assessments based on data received from third-party sources such as employers, medical schemes, and financial institutions.
Taxpayers who find that their auto-assessment is incomplete or contains inaccuracies are required to perform a manual amendment. According to the notice, taxpayers have until 20 October 2025 to submit these changes via the SARS eFiling portal or the SARS MobiApp.
Key Compliance Requirements
- Auto-Assessment Review: Taxpayers must verify all pre-populated data against their own certificates, including IRP5, IT3(b), and medical aid statements.
- Deadline: The cutoff for manual intervention and filing for non-provisional taxpayers is 20 October 2025.
- Digital Channels: Submissions must be made through official electronic channels to ensure valid processing and avoid manual queueing at branches.

What this means for you, your business, or your clients
- For yourself: You must access your SARS eFiling profile to review any issued auto-assessment and ensure all manual amendments are submitted before the 20 October 2025 deadline to avoid administrative penalties.
- For your business: Ensure that all payroll data and employee tax certificates have been correctly uploaded to SARS to prevent discrepancies in employee auto-assessments that could lead to disputes or compliance audits.
- For your clients: Tax practitioners must initiate the review of client auto-assessments immediately upon the season opening to manage the 20 October 2025 deadline for manual corrections and ensure all relevant deductions are claimed.
