In terms of the Income Tax Act, No. 58 of 1962, SARS has confirmed that the 2025 filing season will continue to utilise the auto-assessment system for individual taxpayers. Under this framework, the Commissioner issues assessments based on data received from third-party sources such as employers, medical schemes, and financial institutions.

Taxpayers who find that their auto-assessment is incomplete or contains inaccuracies are required to perform a manual amendment. According to the notice, taxpayers have until 20 October 2025 to submit these changes via the SARS eFiling portal or the SARS MobiApp.

  • Auto-Assessment Review: Taxpayers must verify all pre-populated data against their own certificates, including IRP5, IT3(b), and medical aid statements.
