CIPC: Transition to Electronic Voluntary Deregistration Notices
Brought to you by SA Accounting Academy: The Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) has confirmed that voluntary deregistration notices will be issued exclusively via email starting in August 2025.
In terms of the Companies Act, No. 71 of 2008, the CIPC has issued a notice stating that effective 11 August 2025, voluntary deregistration notices will no longer be dispatched via post. These documents will be issued exclusively via email to the contact details recorded on the companies’ registry for directors of companies and members of close corporations.
The transition affects the following specific regulatory notices:
- CoR40.4D: Notice of Intention to Deregister; and
- CoR40.5: Notice of Final Deregistration.
The CIPC will continue processing voluntary deregistrations for entities that applied prior to this date but whose processes remained incomplete due to the migration. Practitioners must note that the objection period between the issuance of the CoR40.4D letter and final deregistration remains a minimum of 20 business days, which must be strictly adhered to.
Because the voluntary deregistration process currently operates on a legacy system, the CIPC will not provide automated status updates via email to the applicant. All progress must be monitored manually through the BizProfile platform to ensure compliance with the 20-day objection window.

What this means for you, your business, or your clients
- For yourself: Verify that your own professional contact details on the CIPC registry are accurate to ensure receipt of any regulatory notices affecting entities where you hold a directorship.
- For your business: Update internal compliance manuals to include mandatory BizProfile checks for all pending deregistrations, as the CIPC will not send proactive status updates to the filing agent or applicant.
- For your clients: Conduct a data audit of client director and member email addresses on the CIPC registry to ensure they receive the CoR40.4D notice, allowing the full 20-business-day window for any necessary objections.
