FIC: Daily Monitoring of goAML Message Board Mandatory for Accountable Institutions
Brought to you by SA Accounting Academy: The Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) has issued a notice requiring all accountable institutions to monitor the goAML message board daily to ensure timeous receipt of regulatory instructions and advisories.
In terms of the Financial Intelligence Centre Act, No. 38 of 2001, the FIC has designated the goAML message board as the predominant means of direct communication with entities registered on the system. All entities listed in the designated categories of Schedule 1 of the Act are now urged to visit the platform on a daily basis.
The FIC utilizes this channel to communicate specific operational intelligence instructions and requests that arise from regulatory reporting. Furthermore, the message board serves as the repository for:
- Critical information and advisories applicable to specific or all entities;
- General regulatory and legislative updates;
- Guidance notes and other information of significance to the regulatory reporting community.
The goAML message board is accessible via the FIC’s registration and reporting platform. Accountable institutions are responsible for ensuring that they have functional access to the system and that the relevant compliance personnel are tasked with reviewing these communications regularly.

What this means for you, your business, or your clients
- For yourself: Ensure you have active user credentials for the goAML portal and familiarize yourself with the location of the message board within the interface to avoid missing direct regulatory requests.
- For your business: Update your firm’s Risk Management and Compliance Programme (RMCP) to include a formal requirement for the Compliance Officer or MLRO to check the goAML message board every business day.
- For your clients: No direct individual obligations; impact is channelled through the firm’s ability to respond quickly to FIC requests, thereby reducing the risk of regulatory delays or transaction blocks for clients.
