IRBA Tables 2024/2025 Annual Report

In terms of the Auditing Profession Act, No. 26 of 2005, the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA) has tabled its Annual Report for the 2024/2025 financial year before the Standing Committee of Finance. The report signifies the end of the regulator’s current five-year strategic framework and outlines the transition into a new strategic period for the auditing profession in South Africa.
The report confirms that the IRBA received a clean audit opinion from the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) for the fourth consecutive year. Key regulatory focus areas documented in the report include:
- Progress in restoring stakeholder trust through enhanced oversight effectiveness;
- Improvements in transparency within the auditing profession;
- The conclusion of the 2020—2025 strategic cycle; and
- The implementation of more rigorous enforcement and monitoring mechanisms.
