Brought to you by SA Accounting Academy: The Department of Employment and Labour has issued a reminder regarding the closing date for the 2025 Employment Equity (EE) reporting cycle.

In terms of the Employment Equity Act, No. 55 of 1998, the window for online submissions, which opened on 1 September 2025, is scheduled to close on 15 January 2026. This deadline applies to all designated employers who are required to submit their annual EE reports (EEA2 and EEA4 forms) to the Department.

Under the current regulatory framework, designated employers are defined as those employing 50 or more employees. These entities must ensure that their submissions are not only completed by the deadline but also reflect alignment with the new sector-specific targets published by the Minister of Employment and Labour earlier in 2025.

Compliance Requirements

Employers are required to perform the following actions before the 15 January 2026 deadline:

  • Submit the annual Employment Equity reports via the Department of Employment and Labour’s online portal.
  • Draft and implement employment equity plans covering the next five-year period.
  • Ensure that internal transformation goals are aligned with the gazetted sector targets relevant to their specific industry.

Failure to submit the required reports within the prescribed timeframe may result in the employer being omitted from the Employment Equity Public Register and could lead to enforcement proceedings under the Act.

What this means for you, your business, or your clients

  • For yourself: Ensure your professional knowledge is current regarding the specific numerical targets for your sector to provide accurate compliance oversight or advisory services.
  • For your business: If your firm employs 50 or more staff, you must finalize the five-year EE plan and complete the online submission of EEA2 and EEA4 forms before 15 January 2026 to maintain compliance and avoid potential fines.
  • For your clients: Conduct an urgent review of client employee headcounts to identify newly designated employers and assist them in aligning their transformation plans with the latest sector-specific targets before the reporting portal closes.
