Deadline Extended for Draft AML/CTF General Laws Amendment Bill
Brought to you by SA Legal Academy: National Treasury has extended the deadline for public comment on the draft General Laws (Anti-Money Laundering & Combating Terrorism Financing) Amendment Bill to 2 March 2026.
In terms of a notice gazetted on 19 February 2026, the period for submitting written representations on the draft General Laws (Anti-Money Laundering & Combating Terrorism Financing) Amendment Bill has been extended from the initial date of 13 February 2026. This draft Bill is an expanded version of the draft legislation released for public comment in December 2024.
The revised draft was developed in consultation with the Department of Trade, Industry & Competition, the Department of Social Development, the Financial Intelligence Centre, the Prudential Authority, and the Financial Sector Conduct Authority. It aims to further strengthen the national anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorism-financing system to ensure compliance with international standards.
The proposed legislation seeks to amend the following Acts:
- Trust Property Control Act, No. 57 of 1988;
- Non-profit Organisations Act, No. 71 of 1997;
- Financial Intelligence Centre Act, No. 38 of 2001;
- Companies Act, No. 71 of 2008; and
- Financial Sector Regulation Act, No. 9 of 2017.
