Draft Rates and Monetary Amounts Bill: Treasury Invites Public Comment
Brought to you by SA Legal Academy: National Treasury has issued a call for public comments on the draft Rates and Monetary Amounts and Amendment of Revenue Laws Bill, which was tabled in Parliament on 25 February 2026.
The draft Bill gives legislative effect to the tax proposals and adjustments to rates and monetary thresholds announced in the 2026/27 Budget. These changes typically encompass adjustments to personal income tax brackets, rebates, medical tax credits, and excise duties on tobacco and alcohol products.
Stakeholders and interested parties are requested to submit written comments on the proposed legislative amendments. The deadline for submissions to National Treasury is 26 June 2026.
What this means for you, your business, or your clients
- For yourself: Review the proposed adjustments to personal income tax brackets and rebates to assess the impact on your personal tax liability for the upcoming tax year.
- For your business: Ensure payroll systems and tax compliance software are prepared to integrate the updated rates and monetary thresholds once enacted.
- For your clients: Advise clients on how the proposed changes to excise duties, rebates, and tax thresholds will affect their operational costs and tax planning strategies, and assist them in drafting submissions before the 26 June 2026 deadline.
