Parliament Calls for Submissions on Three Justice Bills

Brought to you by SA Legal Academy: The Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development has issued a call for written public submissions on three key pieces of draft legislation. Stakeholders have until 24 July 2026 to submit their comments on the proposed laws.

The public consultation process covers three Bills introduced between July 2025 and May 2026, each addressing distinct areas of the justice system, judicial education, and international legal cooperation:

  • International Co-operation in Criminal Matters Amendment Bill: Formally introduced in July 2025, this Bill seeks to strengthen South Africa’s statutory framework for international co-operation and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.
  • Extradition Bill: Tabled in May 2026, this Bill aims to modernise South Africa’s extradition framework, ensuring that it is aligned with constitutional principles and the country’s international commitments.
  • South African Judicial Education Institute Amendment Bill: Formally introduced in October 2025, this Bill focuses on the governance, administration, and management of the institute.
