Gauteng Invites Public Comments on Draft Road Traffic Regulation Amendments

Brought to you by SAnews: The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport has published proposed amendments to the Gauteng Provincial Road Traffic Regulations, 2001 for public review and stakeholder submission.

In terms of section 25(1)(g) and (h) of the Gauteng Road Traffic Act, No. 10 of 1997, the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Roads and Transport has issued draft regulatory amendments intended to enhance road safety, tighten regulatory enforcement, and improve statutory compliance across the province.

The draft amendments were published in Gauteng Provincial Extraordinary Gazette No. 247 on 5 August 2026.

Interested stakeholders and members of the public must submit written representations on or before the statutory deadline of 23 September 2026. Submissions and enquiries may be directed via the following mechanisms:

  • Hand delivery: Physical submissions may be delivered to the Office of the Director: Policy, Legislation, Research and Knowledge Management, 25th Floor, Life Centre Building, 45 Commissioner Street, Johannesburg.
  • Access to the Gazette: Copies of Extraordinary Gazette No. 247 are obtainable from the department’s head office, regional offices, Driving Licence Testing Centres (DLTCs), and Transport Operating Licence Administrative Bodies (TOLABs), or by telephoning (011) 355 7190 / 7036 during business hours.
